  1. Hey,
We’re a band called The Dirty Lungs. We’ve played with Harlem, Jacuzzi Boys, Bonnie Prince Billy, Black Diamond Heavies, Monotonix, Ladyhawk, Tapes n Tapes, Dexter Romweber, Hacienda, etc. We’ve built a solid southeastern fanbase, released an EP, and premiered a video this last winter. In June we’re releasing a 7″ along side a video, and doing a two week string of dates to promote both ventures along the east coast. Here’s what some have already said,

“Chock-full of wiggling delights and mind-expanding shreds recalling psyche greats like The Blue Cheer and Big Brother and the Holding Company, The Dirty Lungs wrap it up with a hip-shaking swagger clearly rooted in The Dirty South.”

“They do a retro psych-rock thing with a classic rock sheen, kind of like the last Comets on Fire record”

Feel free to join the conversation.

  4. Hello,
My name is Erik, and I am the singer-songwriter in the Brooklyn, NY based, lyrically-driven, indie/folk collective, Grand Lake Islands. We draw influences from the likes of A.A. Bondy, Neil Young, and Bright Eyes.

We are about to officially release our debut album, “Wake of Waking” but are currently doing a soft release, offering it for free on our bandcamp site(Grandlakeislands.bandcamp.com) or on our website. You can find more info (bio, pics, show) on our website as well.

I am extremely proud of the album and would love it if you could give it a listen and if you feel so inclined, review it on your blog.

    Thank you very much,
    Erik

Grand Lake Islands’ debut album, “Wake of Waking” shows glimpses of bands such as A.A Bondy, Sufjan Stevens, Ray LaMontage, and even a few Beach House-y vibes in “Old Soul”- and a beautiful heaviness all its own….” punkcakes.

“Erik Emanuelson’s leading vocals sound fragile and honest, and eerily familiar. I highly suggest you give this one a listen…” Friendswithbotharms

  6. Sarah Goodin says:

    Dear Heartache;
I think I may have something to help. My name is Sarah Goodin and I sing sad songs, blues songs, roots songs, good songs with a little help from my guitar and piano; mostly, I sing songs that are good for what ails the soul. I’ve got a little EP with four of my originals, and at least one of them is sure to cure your heartache. I know it’s hard to take medicine from someone you just met, so I came with references:

“Sarah Goodin has a voice that will break your heart.” (Scot Casey, What’s Up! Magazine)
“I’m sorry if what I’m about to say offends every other vocalist in town, but there ain’t no one around these parts that can belt out a song like Goodin. Don’t believe me? …see for yourself. She deserves the biggest audience she can get. ” (Carey Ross, Cascadia Weekly).

Please, take a moment and visit these places to listen to what I’ve got for you:

    facebook.com/SarahGoodinMusic

    Thank you, and good luck.

    Sincerely,

    Sarah Goodin

    Hello,

Please check out my band Esterhazy’s sophomore release, Enola, as linked above.

We are an indie rock band based out of New York City. The singles I have sent you are inspired by F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby and James Joyce’s Dubliners. And Modest Mouse is the best! We actually sent our debut E.P. to Isaac and he emailed us back saying it was “very cool spacey stuff.” You’ll have to take my word for it.

We would love to be considered for a write-up in your blog.

    Sincerely,

    Damon Korf

  14. Steve Beres says:

    Well hey there,

I’m this 18 year old kid from a small town in Pennsylvania who just self-released
his fifth album in the past year, ‘The Art of Standing Up,’ which can be found at thehumannatures.bandcamp.com and be downloaded for free. It’d really be appreciated if you would listen to the album and possibly consider it for review. If you need an idea of my sound, I’ve been told that it’s something around Panda Bear as routed through the stylings of the Violent Femmes.

Thank you and have an excellent week.

I enjoyed your music related posts; just discovered your blog (Google knows where to find best songs by Bruce Springsteen). Where neither words are flashy nor the blog design, I believe I won’t help but re-visit the blog. You write well.

    Cheers!

  18. Perhaps you could give a listen to the record I made? For fans of Death Cab For Cutie, The Strokes, and The Lonely Forest.

Heading now to read the Top 10 Petty songs…

  19. I’m submitting the band In Snow to Heartache With Hard Work for review and I hope you enjoy it. In Snow is an instrumental Orchestral/ Post-Rock band from Birmingham, Alabama That formed in 2012. We have four members: Brooke McCarley (Bass) , Sam Porter (Guitar) Michael Pocus (Drums) and myself, Christopher Suda (Guitar). We have long compositions at the moment but we are trying to get out of the more typical side of what we consider emotionally driven and powerful music. Our first 28 minute EP can be found here and is available for free download:

It is called Red Towers. This is live recording done very well by the staff at Bottletree Cafe in Birmingham, Alabama. Our creative process is one of the most exciting and therapeutic settings I have ever been in, and I am very grateful to be putting my all into this band because this is everything we have.

We have heavy influences that range from Unwound to of course Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Red Sparowes.

We also have had a video made by Charlie Brown Sanders of Birmingham, Alabama of our last show at The Forge in Birmingham, Alabama.

It’s been a long time since I’ve submitted anything to be posted, probably since I was working with the Dirty Diamonds, but I wanted to share this. I thought you might like the artist I just started managing. Her name is Deer Emerson, she’s an amazing multi-instrumentalist from Chicago.
    https://soundcloud.com/deeremerson/havre-de-grace
    Here is some backstory:
Painting the deep and sultry vocals of jazz greats like Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday over a unique canvas of indie pop rock, singer songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Deer Emerson captures listeners with her music. Deer Emerson is the stage name of Chicago transplant Sara Buzon. Inspired by bands like The Hush Sound and Lights, Buzon began creating tracks as Deer Emerson when she pulled out her guitar, a Bose RC20XL and a Micro Korg XL. After a series of life altering hardships and hours in her parents garage in Norwich Connecticut, she was reborn after creating the song “Havre de Grace.”
The name Deer Emerson comes from her connection to transcendentalist Ralph Waldo Emerson. Her ethos is self actualization, finding who you are and looking for your path. Her music encourages listeners to give life everything they can. When you catch a live performance from Deer Emerson don’t be surprised if she’s wearing a mask, she wishes to be judged by her music and not taken at face value. Either way you will be washed up in a wave of emotion and captured by her remarkable presence.
Would love to know what you think.

    Hi,

Could you please delete my comment from your post: “Always waiting for the coming of morning”? It always comes up on Google searches on the first page and it irks me… this one as well!

    Thanks!

Hello! I’m not here to ask for a promo, but a favor. You should make YouTube playlists of your top songs of the year, to make them easier to listen to. I think that would be a really cool feature, so if you ever don’t have much to do you could do that, maybe?

  24. I just wish I’m useful in some way here.
