The letters flew across the wire filtered through a million liars

Heading down South again on another trip. This time to Lexington, Kentucky. In honor of all things good about the South (sweet tea and Waffle House, mainly), here’s a song by the Drive-By Truckers from their album The Dirty South.

The Day John Henry Died

A really fantastic taken on the John Henry story that just gives me shivers:

It didn’t matter if he won, if he lived, or if he’d run.
They changed the way his job was done. Labor costs were high.
That new machine was cheap as hell and only John would work as well,
so they left him laying where he fell the day John Henry died.
